National Craft Month
During March, visit your national collection of craft at the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery.
To whet your appetite, view our online video series, The Art of Craft. In our fiber episode, join Mary Jackson, a basket weaver in Charleston, South Carolina, as she describes the traditions she inherited from her ancestors of sub-Sarahan Africa. View the artist's masterful weaving process and several of her elegantly shaped finished products.
Then come over to the Renwick Gallery to see exquisite crafts firsthand. Currently the Renwick celebrates its 30th anniversaryas well as the 20th anniversary of its support group, the James Renwick Alliance (JRA)with a new installation of its permanent collection. Highlighting clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood, the museum's acquisition of all of the works represented was made possible by the JRA. The installation is on display now through the end of May as part of a rotation of the collection that occurs twice per year.
The Renwick Gallery is located at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, across the street from the White House.
