A special exhibition, Wood Turning since 1930, opens today at the Renwick Gallery.
Wood turning is among the most popular of craft art techniques today. The 130 works in this exhibition document six decades of wood turning in North America. The exhibition celebrates the variety and beauty of turned wooden objects while providing the first critical history of the craft.
Lucky visitors will also see artists demonstrate a tool used in wood turningthe lathe! Demonstrations will take place from noon to 3:00 P.M. on March 17, 20, 24, 27 and April 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, and 28.
The Renwick Gallery is located at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, across the street from the White House. Wood Turning since 1930 runs through July 14, 2002.
