Once upon a Time

Storyteller Bear (His first)
April 10th is Stories Day, a time for storytelling and other activities that promote children's literacy.

Native American potter Louis Naranjo made today's feature, Storyteller Bear. It illustrates a popular Pueblo pottery theme, the storyteller, which emphasizes the importance of oral traditions in Native American cultures. Naranjo's work takes the whimsical form of a bear with cubs. Today, Pueblo potters include men, though pottery was once the domain of women.
