Renwick Open House

Red Teapot #5
Our special exhibition The Renwick Invitational: Four Discoveries in Craft opens today!

The exhibition highlights fifty objects in various craft media. James Koehler of Santa Fe, N.M., weaves bold, colorful tapestries. Gyöngy Laky of San Francisco interlaces twigs, electrical wire, and other found objects into nestlike baskets. Kristina Logan of Portsmouth, N.H., creates intricate glass beads, as well as other glass objects such as candlesticks, boxes, and teapots (shown above). Kim Rawdin of Scottsdale, Ariz., crafts gold and silver bracelets and brooches adorned with vibrantly colored stones.

You can meet the artists at the Renwick Gallery today at 2:00 P.M. and at the Open House tomorrow, June 15th, from 3:00 to 5:30 P.M. The Renwick's Curator-in-Charge Kenneth Trapp talks with all four artists about their work, lives, and inspiration. Light refreshments and informal conversation with the artists and the curator follow the program.

The Renwick Gallery is located at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, across from the White House. For information, call (202) 357-2531. Learn more about American art events with our online program calendar.
