Cheyenne Frontier Days

Bronco Busting
See the world's largest outdoor rodeo at Frontier Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming, from the 19th through the 28th of July.

Today's bucking bronco, painted by Velino Shije Herrera, is part of our collection of Pueblo Indian watercolors.

Herrera spent much of his life as a rancher and cowboy. His friends called him the "singing artist" because he was always singing as he painted. This makes sense because he was named for a bird. His Indian name was "Ma Pe Wi," which means red bird or oriole.
