Leaf Peepers Unleashed
Head for the hills and enjoy autumn's blazing foliage!
The figures in today's artwork nestle among deciduous fall trees. With vine leaves adorning his hair, a man offers a basket of freshly harvested grapes to a woman in sumptuous red robes. The rich colors and organic lines simulate autumn's bounty and sensual delights.
This painting could easily be chosen for an October image on an Art Nouveau calendar. It should come as no surprise then, that artist William Clarke Rice designed the work for the cover of the October edition of Harper's magazine in 1903.
