It's North Pole Discovery Day!


Commodore Peary and Henson at the North Pole

American arctic explorer Robert Edwin Peary and Matthew Henson, his African American assistant, are acknowledged as discovers of the North Pole. Peary, Henson, and four Eskimos reached the North Pole on April 6, 1909.
