Farewell to the King
Millions of fans checked into "heartbreak hotel" on this sad day in 1977, when singer Elvis Presley died at age 42. Devoted fans still flock by the thousands to Graceland, Presley's home in Memphis, Tennessee, during the week of his death to pay tribute to the musical legacy of the King of Rock and Roll.
Photographer William Eggleston made the pilgrimage to Graceland as well, shooting an entire series of images inside Presley's ornately decorated mansion.
