Man Ray Day

Indestructible Object
Born on this day in 1890, American artist Man Ray was a founding member of the Dada and Surrealist movements.

Man Ray was a painter, photographer, maker of collages and objects, as well as a draftsman, film-maker, designer, and printmaker.

Rather than being dependent on any particular style or medium, his art was dictated by the necessities of his creative idea. "Art," he said, "simply varies in its sources of inspiration and in its modes of execution. It can vary within one man, depending on his curiosity and on his sense of freedom.… The real experiment is in proportion to the desire to discover and enjoy."
