Reading the Newspaper, the Artist's Father
On this day in 1783, the first daily newspaper was published in the United States.

The newspaper, called The Pennsylvania Evening Post, was published in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Benjamin Towne.

Artist Nicolai Fechin depicted his father enjoying the newspaper in this 1916 painting from the Smithsonian American Art Museum collection.
