Big Brother Is Watching

English author Eric Arthur Blair—a.k.a. George Orwell—was born on this day in 1903.

Orwell's political satire took the form of numerous essays and many well known works of fiction, such as Animal Farm and the chilling futurist novel 1984.

This stark lithograph by Jolan Gross Bettelheim evokes the atmosphere of the ugly world run by Big Brother in 1984.

"If you want to imagine the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever."

—George Orwell, 1984
