Are You off Your Rocker?

Double Rocking Chair
Or just crazy about chairs?

If so, visit our show, The Furniture of Sam Maloof, on view at the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery through January 20, 2002.

This marks the first full-scale exhibition of Sam Maloof's celebrated sculptural furniture over his 50-year career as a designer-craftsman and a leader in the American craft movement. Best known for his graceful, exquisitely crafted and extraordinarily comfortable all-wood rocking chairs—enjoyed by three U.S. presidents—Maloof has slowly evolved classic furniture designs that are both beautiful and utilitarian.

The Renwick Gallery is located at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, across the street from the White House. Plus check out our online exhibition Maloof on Maloof, where quotations from the artist articulate his designer-craftsman philosophy.
