For Kids and Teachers

Outdoor sculpture is art and history that everyone can enjoy every day. To highlight America's outdoor sculpture, we have developed some educational resources.

Public Sculpture: America's Legacy Study Guide

Public Sculpture: America's Legacy is a multimedia kit geared for secondary schools (grades seven through twelve). This kit was developed by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and designed under the auspices of the National Arts and Humanities Education Program. To order, call Crystal Productions at (800) 255-8629 and ask for item CP-6048.

Inside Outdoor Sculpture takes a hands-on approach to studying outdoor sculpture. These interdisciplinary educational materials are designed primarily for students nine to fourteen years old, teachers, and other educators. Packaged in a conservator's sturdy canvas work bag, Inside Outdoor Sculpture includes a twenty four-page resource guide, a loan kit with objects, and laminated sculpture cards. You can rent it for a nominal fee from Heritage Preservation. For more details, call (888) 767-7285.

SOS! 4 Kids is an interactive Web site that helps elementary and middle-school children to understand and appreciate sculpture.

The SOS! traveling exhibition Preserving Memory: America's Monumental Legacy might be coming to your city soon. To see an updated list of venues, go to www.heritagepreservation.org.
