New technologies, such as televisions, videos, DVDs and mp3s are used by many artists in multimedia installations, but they are among the greatest challenges facing the field of conservation. Dr. Glenn Wharton, media conservator at MoMA and a research scholar at New York Universitys Conservation Center and Museum Studies programs, will discuss how MoMAs conservation program for time-based media is on the cutting edge of new research and developments in the field.

Photographer Frank Gohlke, a leading figure in American landscape photography and subject of the exhibition Accommodating Nature, will present a selection of readings from his catalogue essay entitled Stories in the Dirt, Stories in the Air. Using his own artwork, Gohlke shares his musings on the American landscape and shows how his photographs capture the effects of human interaction with nature. Following the reading, Curator of Photography Toby Jurovics will moderate a discussion with the artist and take questions from the audience. Reception follows.
