McEvoy Auditorium, Lower LevelAmerican Art Museum Collectors Roundtable opens doors to the exciting world of art collecting. These special sessions provide a forum for experienced private collectorsand those just starting to collectto learn from acclaimed experts. All lectures begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
American Picture Frames: Choices by Artists and Collectors Carrie Rebora Barratt Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture The Metropolitan Museum of Art Carrie Rebora Barratt is Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture, and Manager of The Henry R. Luce Center for the Study of American Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. During her tenure at the Met, she has curated exhibitions on Gilbert Stuart, John Singleton Copley, Thomas Sully, and others, as well as thematic shows on American Folk art, period frames, and American drawings. Since 1989, as Manager of The Luce Center, the American Wings visible storage facility, Barratt has overseen the display and electronic cataloguing of over 10,000 works of American fine and decorative art on view in that facility. She is currently the lead curator on the major renovation of the galleries for American Paintings and Sculpture, which will reopen in early 2011. Future projects include an exhibition opening in fall 2009 on American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life 1765-1915 and a collection catalogue of the Metropolitans American portrait miniatures. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, she received her M.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Barratt joins the Collectors Roundtable to discuss an often overlooked aspect of collecting: the framing and presentation of acquired pieces in a studio, gallery or home.
