- 2:30 PM
Luce Foundation Center, Third FloorAmerican Art Museum Did you know the average person pauses less than 8 seconds to take in a work of art? Break the cycle of speeding through museums by participating in a Slow Art event at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Reflect at length upon an artwork of your choice in the galleries then gather in Kogod Courtyard at 1:15 p.m. for a lunchtime discussion with other participants. Register here (program participation and admission to the museum are free); purchase food from the Courtyard Cafe or bring your own lunch. Check in at the Luce Foundation Center upon arrival to borrow a folding stool; otherwise, meet in the Courtyard at 1:15 p.m. Questions ahead of time should be directed to (202) 633-5435.
Suggested artworks to view before lunch: Lily Furedi Subway James Hampton, The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly Albert Bierstadt, Among the Sierra Nevada, California David Hockney, Snails Space with Vari-Lites, "Painting as Performance" Miriam Schapiro and Sherry Brody, Dollhouse Unidentified, Eye of a Lady Sarah Goodridge, Gilbert Stuart Unidentified, Three-Way Portrait of Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and Unidentified Native American (William Mackintosh?) |
