Art a la Cart

Most weekends the Smithsonian American Art Museum offers several interactive carts for kids ages 7 to 12, found throughout the galleries. Explore the museum collection through hands-on activities using sculpture, folk art, photography and even bison bones! Younger children ages 3 to 6 can investigate an artwork in the galleries using the museum’s Sense of Discovery activity bags, available at the carts. Consider the sounds and smells in a painting, mimic the movement of a sculpture, and quietly read a poem written by a child about an artwork. Specific dates for Art a la Cart are listed below.
