Jed Perl
Democratic Elitism: Reflections on High Culture and Modern Society

For more than three decades, Jed Perl has been a thought- provoking voice in art criticism. Perl has commented on a diverse array of themes, from the rise of blockbuster exhibitions to the under-recognition of emerging artists. Since 1994, he has covered the contemporary art scene for the New Republic. Perl's articles have appeared in Vogue, the New Criterion, and the New York Times Book Review, among other publications. He serves on the Board of Directors of Modern Painters, where he contributes essays and reviews. In addition to lecturing at numerous colleges and art schools, Perl, a recipient of an Ingram Merrill Foundation Award, has appeared on National Public Radio's "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" and on CNN. Perl is the author of several books, including Eyewitness: Reports from an Art World in Crisis;Paris without End: On French Art Since World War I; Gallery Going: Four Seasons in the Art World, and most recently, New Art City.
