The Spot
This is the only print I have made in which I eliminated the building behind the sign, leaving the message silhouetted against a white background. I took numerous photos of this subject in 1974 thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Using NEA funds, I was able to visit twenty-seven cities in the Northeast, traveling by Greyhound bus. During my trip I shot thousands of slides that I continue to use as source material to this day.
