
John Clancy: One of the first oils that we sold was to Stephen Clark; that was The House by the Railroad; which he gave to the Museum of Modern Art (which, incidentally, was the start of their collection) Hopper was the first picture they acquired Clark remained a great admirer of Hopper up until the time he died. And I think he bought more Hoppers than any museum or any collector in the country. He had a marvelous eye. He had a great collection."
