Mervin Jules produced some of the strongest works of his career when he began to make monotypes during the 1970s after a serious illness that confined him to a wheelchair. Moving from the more detailed, figurative style of his earlier work, he sought inspiration in the sea and land surrounding his Provincetown, Massachusetts, retreat and created strong abstract compositions that reveal his ability as a colorist. |
