The boy's clothing dates this painting to the first half of the nineteenth century, while the toy he holds establishes its Puerto Rican origin. The bottom of the toy is a small bellows that made a noise when squeezed. It is topped with a carving of a cotorra, a now-endangered green parrot that lives in the island's rain forest.

La ropa del niño permite fechar este cuadro en la primera mitad del siglo XIX, y su juguete indica su origen puertorriqueño.
