Emil Milan trained to be a sculptor and always enjoyed working with wood. He considered his objects to be "functional sculpture" and never made anything that could not be used. The size and shape of the wood inspired each individual piece, and Milan's carved production ware included elegant bowls, candlesticks, spoons, and plates.
