Luce Artist Biography

William Bradford worked in the clothing business before becoming a full-time artist. His first studio was in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, where he created detailed paintings of the ships that came through the local harbor. He later traveled to the Atlantic coast of Labrador, Canada, and became famous for his paintings of ships in open arctic waters. One of these, commissioned by Queen Victoria, was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1875.
