Luce Artist Biography

As a boy, Arthur P. Dilbert learned to carve bamboo needles, which his father used to make fishing nets. Dilbert worked as a longshoreman and began to whittle canes from packing crates to pass the time during long nights on the docks. He decorates his canes with figures and animals that tell stories about his life in Savannah, Georgia. (State Personnel News, Georgia, February 1997)
