Biography

Anthony C. Paquet arrived in Philadelphia from Germany in 1848. He worked for the United States Mint as an assistant engraver from 1857 to 1864, a period when silver and gold mining in Mexico led to rapid changes in the coinage of Western nations. Paquet created portrait medals of George Washington and refinements to the design of the United States “Seated Liberty” half dime.
