Artwork Description
Paul Manship designed this medal of honor for the Civic Forum of New York City. Research has not revealed the history of the Civic Forum, but the award medal was issued in the early part of the twentieth century to acknowledge exceptional contributions to society. Notable recipients of the medal include George Washington Goethals, chief engineer of the Panama Canal (1914), Thomas A. Edison (1915), Alexander Graham Bell (1917), and Herbert Hoover (1920).
