Artwork Description
The Detroit Soldiers Memorial Medal honors veterans killed in World War I. The obverse of Paul Manship’s artist’s strike, or sample, shows a winged female figure bestowing a wreath on a cross, suggesting victory over death through faith in Christ. The Latin inscription reads “Lived, Conquered, Shall Live.”
