Artwork Description

Kenneth Adams posed an elderly woman before a window that looks out on a darkening day. Her wrinkled features resemble the weathered land behind her, and her snowy head wrap and blue blouse evoke clouds in a twilight sky. The allegorical title emphasizes the association between the “native” and her environment, an idea that many Anglo painters in the Southwest fostered in their art.
