The title of this piece, Sprout, suggests growth and potential, that this weighty, abstract form may give life to something else. Nancy Jurs sculpted this object at a time when she was dealing with her changing role as a woman. With her children growing older and leaving home, Jurs was able to grow into a more independent individual, free to explore new life experiences.
