Waterfall is one in a series of pieces Mary Ann Scherr produced that emulate falling water. Translating the ephemeral qualities of water into hardened metal, the artist has strung minute tubes of soldering material onto nylon-coated wires that spill forth from the neck. The ordinary motions of the human body transform the piece into a kinetic sculpture, in which the sterling silver and gold beads suggest the tips of waves in currents of water.
