Luce Center Quote

"[The dreamers are] a private Eden that seems to have been mapped on the clay by the unfurling dream . . . To walk around one of them is to see the sights of a long trip through a wildly varied terrain." Carter Ratcliff, Art in America, June 1997)

Luce Center Label

Pond Dreamer is part of Michael Lucero's Dreamers series of large sleeping heads painted to show their dreams. The artist has cut away the top of the head to allow the dreamer's thoughts to spill out onto his face. A large blue and green swirling pond resembling a fingerprint dominates the busy surface of the sculpture. Lucero's Pond Dreamer contrasts the apparent serenity of the sleeping face with the activity painted on the surface.
