George Catlin
A Seminole Woman, 1838
Seminole
oil
29 x 24 in.
Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Mrs. Joseph Harrison, Jr.

Painted at Fort Moultrie in January 1838. Donaldson is apparently mistaken in identifying this portrait as plate 304 in Letters and Notes. Catlin was forever unable to compose a seated figure.
