Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Renee and Chaim Gross

The symbol below the artist's signature is the monogram of the artist's name: CH G. The letters are inscribed in reverse order with the "G" inverted. Gross referred to this symbol as "The Dog," presumably because of its resemblance to the animal. The monogram appears on all of his sculptures and finished drawings.
