This stunning photograph accentuates the poise and refinement of Lillian Evans Tibbs. Professionally known as Madame Evanti, the internationally acclaimed lyric soprano was at the height of her fame when this photo was commissioned. The first black American to sing with the Paris Opera, Madame Evanti toured Europe where she charmed audience during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
