Throughout this mixed-media piece, Purvis Young presents us with oppositions. The spirited horses seem capable of flight, while the figures are isolated and trapped in box-like cells, seemingly unaware of the means that exist to escape from the maze. Young’s message is powerful—a way out can exist in the midst of turmoil and struggle.
