Smithsonian American Art Museum, Transfer from the National Endowment for the Arts

A native Kansan, Schwarm learned early on to respect the subtleties of the landscape. His intense interest in landscape photography dates from the series, Kansas Documentary Survey Project. This image from that series looks at the land through a man-made frame that, itself, becomes an integral part of the view.
