Fritz Dreisbach began the Mongo series in 1979 in an attempt "to capture and display the fluid, organic feel of hot, molten glass." The vessel's undulating lines and forms resemble an exotic flower or sea form. Although inert, the glass looks alive, as though it could begin to flow at any moment. The piece is, in essence, a drawing in glass in space.
