| Woven of rattan, kozo, and nylon, Joanne Segal Brandford's Bundle transports the basket-inspired form into the realm of sculpture. Although the sculpture appears static and self-contained, it resonates with an internal dynamic interplay. Strands of fiber loop over and under and into each other to create the sensation of movement and activity. Adding to its visual richness are the pronounced structural lines that hold the piece together. Brandford solved the problem of how to handle the ends of threads by simply tying them into knots, which punctuate the surface of the sculpture. |
