Roger Shimomura's keen sense of the language of graphic design produces visual juxtapositions rich in metaphoric value. Beacon Hill Boy shows a suburban youngster confined to an intricately layered existence. The walls of his home, a white picket fence, and Japanese shoji screens work together to articulate the conflicted, ambivalent nature of cultural identity in America.
