Poor Cupid (Love Ensnared) -- 2

A winged cupid, symbolizing the god of love, is identified by his attributes -- the bow, arrows, and quiver slung over his back. Reaching down to pick up a rose, his foot has set off a trap, suggesting, perhaps, that even Cupid can be snared by feelings of love. There may also have been a personal meaning for Lewis; although a San Francisco newspaper reported in 1873 that she was engaged, nothing seems to have come of it.
