Conservation -- 7

In a cold and humid climate without shelter or a protective coating, the once-polished marble surface and delicate detailing had been significantly abraded by a combination of acid rain and the elements. The marble surface was reduced to a "sugary" texture. Many pieces of marble had been knocked off the statue by vandals; a blue liquid had been thrown at the head and breasts and had left deep stains.
