Anna Quincy Waterston -- 2
(not in exhibition)

Anna C. Quincy Waterston, a poet, was married to the Boston clergyman and writer Robert Cassie Waterston. In 1864 the National Anti-Slavery Standard published Anna's poem entitled "Edmonia Lewis." In it she praised the sculptor's bust of the late Col. Robert Gould Shaw and remarked how appropriate it was that a talented African American should have made such a tribute, especially considering Shaw's leadership of a black regiment in the Civil War. The Waterstons maintained a keen interest in Lewis after she left for Italy.
