Dwight Tryon particularly enjoyed painting in the autumn when he could capture “the wonderful anatomy of the trees.” Painted during his long tenure as a professor of art at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, this landscape probably represents a nearby scene in western Massachusetts.
