The Statue of Liberty turns spaceship in this painting of a fancifully clad, headlamp-equipped woman propelled through the sky by rocket jets. The text that surrounds her and the symbols emblazoned on her hull have yet to be explained. Besharo was a private man who did not speak about his art. At his death, when sixty-nine paintings were found in his Leechburg, Pennsylvania, garage, his neighbors knew this Syrian immigrant only as a housepainter and handyman.
