The victim of a near-fatal shooting in 1978, Greg Warmack assumed the nickname "Mr. Imagination" around 1980 and dedicated himself to making sculpture from cast-off materials he collected on the south side of Chicago. Bottlecap Figure with Mirror is a self-portrait that reflects a vision he received shortly before the shooting: "I looked in the mirror and I had a flash of myself in a regal outfit with a crown or some type of headdress on. I looked like a king." In his sculpture and the community programs which he conducts, Mr. Imagination encourages children to explore art as a healing experience.
