Red Sunset, Old Pond Concerto conveys the intensity of a sunset penetrating layers of greenery to strike darkening water on a summer day. Alma Thomas frequently talked about "watching leaves and flowers tossing in the wind as though they were singing and dancing." She also liked to imagine observing natural forms as if seen from an airplane. Her lyrical interpretation of a sunset suggests a blending of these two perspectives.
