Ad Reinhardt
46 x 24 in.
Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Patricia and Phillip Frost

Reinhardt insisted that art be understood on its own terms, without reference to social, political, or literary ideas. He also rejected any connection between his compositions and nature, saying, "I claim that people who paint trees and grass don't like them. I like the real things, not images of them."
