Smithsonian American Art Museum, Transfer from the Detroit Public Library

In planning this mural for the technology building of the Detroit Public Library, Beerbohm studied the library's renowned collection of books on the automotive industry and visited several steel fabrication factories and automobile assembly plants in the Detroit area. He then painted a composite view that shows the full range of equipment and processes associated with automobile production and the integration of man and machine.
