7) The molten glob of ruby and clear glass is stretched to its final length, about sixty feet. At this point the glass becomes brittle and hard because it has cooled. Before it reaches room temperature, the cane is cut into foot-long sections and placed in a special oven, where it cools slowly over a twenty-four hour period.

8) A cross section of the new cane, taken after it has cooled. The core is the same clear cross from the bundle, with hundreds of individual stems of color surrounding it. Josh designed this cane to be used in cross-section.
